Hi,

I'm in the process of building my first Hackintosh. I'm going to be using an i7 4770 processor with a Gigabyte z87-d3hp motherboard.

I'm
also going to get a GPU, and I was thinking of the GTX 760 until my friend informed me that the GTX 9-series are out very soon. Will these be compatible with hackintosh? Either immediately or soon after? Or will I have to wait and see before I buy it....

Th
anks in advance for your input :)

Until Apple uses a 900 chipset (Maxwell?) in a product, it will be unsupported, probably not until 2015. I'm still waiting for the Maxwell chipset to be used in a Mac so I can use a 750 Ti. The currently supported graphics cards are listed in the tonymax86 Buyers Guide: http://www.tonymacx86.com/443-building-customac-buyer-s-guide-september-2014.html#gfx_cards

Thank you, I managed to miss that bit when I was looking at the more basic essential parts. Well that's a shame. But I've just realised (I'm having a slow day) that I was planning on having a second HDD that runs windows 7 as well, hooked up to the same motherboard etc. If I bought a GTX 960 would I be able to use the GPU on the windows 7 HDD and run the hackintosh side without it being effected by not being able to utilise the GTX 960? Since I want to play games on windows 7 but just general computer use on the Mac side.

I don't see any issue with that, but being a new hackintosher take my thought with a grain of salt. If you run into any problems you can turn off the pci slot that the graphics card is in and use the integrated graphics card. Or you could always buy a cheap graphics card that you know for sure works on top of the 970 and use that for the mac build...

I would recommend a Mobo with dip switches to control PCIe slots. They are available ( I think at least Asus and EVGA have one.)
