I built a few hackintoshes in the past- however , this time i am completely stumped. I have a ga-67n-usb3 motherboard (sandybridge) and i recently decided i wanted to go with integrated graphics for Mavericks. So, i purchased an ivybridge i3 cpu to use in this motherboad to provide hd 4000 graphics. Well, ive tried everything. Even my old installation of moutain lion hangs in the middle of the boot process. Using latest f9 bios that states the ivy cpu is supported in a sandybridge motherboard.

Does this mixed sandy/ivy configuration cause any known issues? I am desperate at this point and wish i had just done a full upgrade to haswell instead- Just thought i would keep the cost down by upgrading the cpu only instead. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I would try booting using -x, your old installation has different settings for graphics. When setting MultiBeast, it is important that you use the Intel Graphics Patch for mixed configurations (Drivers > Graphics) in MB6.

I would consider doing a new installation on a separate HDD using you UniBeast flash drive. You would then be able to setup the original installation through the new one if you continue to have difficulties.

Just an update-

When I attempt clean install with uni-beast it completes the install- however on re-boot when run for first time it halts. checking with -v flag, it keeps halting with a warning of "unrecognized/ unknown cpu"

Again specs are Ivy bridge CPU (i3-3225) and Sandy bridge motherboard GA-67n-usb3

When I install my 5770 GPU and attempt clean install with uni-beast- Mavericks installs and runs fine. SO, it definitely seems there is something that is causing a mis-match between the 2 architectures with the IGP graphics or the CPU itself.

Since this system is mini-ITX, using onboard graphics gives me the ability to install my wifi card. really want to go this rout if possible.

Adrian, you mention using the intel graphics patch for mixed systems. Seems that it should work if I use this patch. just need to figure out if there is a way to get past the CPU halt.... would using -x flag help? the installation completes and halts on re-start...

any suggestions are appreciated guys!

Thanks!!

Adrian -

YOU ARE AWESOME.

-X flag worked.

Booted Very slowly in safe mode.... looked like it wasn't going to get to desktop, but after about 1 minute with grey screen, it did!

I then proceeded to apply the intel graphics patch as suggested (allows mixed intel platforms to work) which was included in MultiBeast 6.0. (THANK GOD SOMEONE MADE THIS PATCH.... Please keep it included in future versions of Multi beast!!!!)

Worked like a charm on reboot. Did not require any flags to boot direct into desktop after intel graphics patch applied. 100 percent working system on HD4000 integrated graphics. As a note, I also set the model to mac mini 5,1 to match the core i3 processor.

Adrian... do you know if I would ever need to re-apply this intel graphics patch again after an apple OS update?

Hope this is a help to others experiencing this unique hardware combination as well.

You will not need to re-apply the Intel patch on the existing installation following any OS X or other app update. If you decided to do a clean installation in the future starting at the very beginning, then you would need to re-use the patch to allow the graphics to work.

Great to hear!

Update.... System running great- dual monitor setup working well. Both hdmi ports on motherboard working properly. fully acellerated intel graphics via HD4000 using mixed sandy/ivy platform. Wifi pcie card works, and so does my usb bluetooth. 100 percent working box!
