See post # 8 - this deal is on again... at $199

Here is an interesting bare bones system (case, power supply and motherboard) that at Newegg’s current price ($250 USD) seems like a real deal.
This is the ‘older’ Z87-M8 version which has now been updated to a Z97-M8 that lists for $500 USD.

Check it out.

M8 is sold as a barebones system, which only includes a chassis, power supply, mini-ITX motherboard, fans, slot-in DVD-RW and SD 3.0

This system most likely will be a challenge to bring up with OS X! But then that is where the fun begins.

Your thoughts.

And today it is still available for $ 199.99 USD.

If you are at least interested this is a real deal... motherboard, power supply, WiFi/BT, case, case fans (4)...

Don't get me wrong as there are issues with this barebones system; see my experience here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/retail-cases/163153-neilharts-asrock-m8-barebones-z87-m8-motherboard.html

But it is an easy hack to have OS X up and running so that is no longer a risk.

If you use a lower power CPU you should have a good experience.

IMHO...

I just noticed that Newegg still has this barebones system on sale for $ 199.99 US.

This is a GREAT deal. An easy OS X hack with only issue is sound (see my story).

The components alone are worth more then then the current price.

- motherboard Z87-M8

- PSU

- Slot loading DVD Re-writeable optical drive

- Riser card

- Compatible WiFi/BT 4 1/2 card

If I had the extra cash I would purchase another one just for the parts.

Still on sale for $199, "save $300". Original link lives.

Hey this deal is on again...! $199 for a M8! This is a barebones mini-itx Z87 system. A very good deal in my mind. See my project here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/retail-cases/163153-neilharts-asrock-m8-barebones-z87-m8-motherboard.html

I am tempted to purchase one of these as the parts (motherboard, PSU, riser card, slot loadging DVD drive) are worth more then the price of the unit!

This thing is insanely cool looking. So all I need is a CPU and RAM to get this running, right? Of course I'll add a GPU as well, but otherwise this thing only requires a few parts to have a working PC?

Yes: See my build.
