BTW, the three year old wireless 802.11a/c components are now coming down in price. I'm using TP-Link Archer C7 v2 AC1750 wireless router with Hector (see signature block); the router can now be acquired for less than $100 USD on Newegg and other venders. The newer C8 AC1750 version is ~$120 and performs better according to the SmallNetBuilder.com testing.

If you're considering upgrading to the new 802.11a/c AC1200-AC1900 series of wireless routers, I recommend the SmallNetBuilder.com's articles:

Thanks for the heads-up Stork.
SmallNetBuilder.com is a great site. I'm still on wireless-N (just to use to print to my wireless printer, which is in the same room as my router & PCs).

I will be going to an AC setup soon & am constantly on the lookout for a good/cheap AC wireless router. Would you say the C8 is worth the extra $30-40 over the C7? Have you been happy with the C7?

I have Comcast 50Mbps down connection & am itching to go wireless to get rid of as many cables (RJ-45) as possible in my computer room. I'm sure If I go wireless AC only (no Gigabit/RJ-45) I won't have trouble with download speeds, but I'm concerned about speeds transferring large (1GB+) files over my network if I go completely wireless (AC clients as well). Any thoughts?

Thanks again for the great info!

I just ordered the Archer C8 Wireless Router & T8e card from NewEgg.
Funny thing is, when I used the promo code, it only subtracted $9.01 instead of $10.

I don't have a Hack right now, just my AMD A6-7400K-based backup PC/Server to test this with.
I'll reply with my experiences once I get the order.

Looking forward to my 1st AC setup. :D

Just got the Archer C8 & T8e installed on my network/backup PC and it's ALL SMILES :) so far.
I was surprised how dead-easy it was to get the C8 set up. I love the web user interface on this thing - clean & simple. I pretty much just went through the step-by-step setup, rebooted it, & I was up & running on my Comcast Cable connection.

I've installed the T8e in my backup PC/File/media server and it works very reliably so far (10 minutes of use). I currently don't have a Hack at the moment, so can't comment on OS X compatability, but I wouldn't expect any problems.

I've already had the T8e installed in my dirt-old Athlon 64 X2-based HTPC (downstairs) that I use to stream movies/TV shows from my AMD A6-7400K-based backup PC/File/media server (upstairs) and it played 1080p Blade Runner perfectly both when the backup PC/File/media server was connected using 1Gb Ethernet and via a802.11n wireless adapter. :) Smooth as a baby's bottom.

I gotta get me 2 more of the T8e's if this one continues to function without issues. Still have to test out download speeds when downloading 6GB movie files, but I'm not expecting problems.

I'll report back if there are any issues.

BIG THANK YOU again to Stork for the heads-up!
