Hi, I've done installations of Mac OS X and have done a bunch of partitioning stuff, but I'l like to know from you experienced guys how to do the following scenario:

120GB SSD: Has Mac OS X and Applications (minus a couple applications) installed on it, boot drive.
2 TB HDD: Contains everything from my current 2TB drive except the above.

I have an iMac right now that I want to take all the data from, so I'd like to know the best way of going about separating my application files from my OS and putting them on my SSD/HDD.

Right now I'm thinking I'm going to do it in this order:

1. Install OS X Mountain Lion on SSD.
2. Migrate user data from my iMac's HDD onto the new 2 TB drive.
3. "link" the two drives, so to speak.

I'm trying to use the same sort of method as this site suggests, but I'd like your input as to what I ought to do.

If you guys have any ideas, I'd be very appreciative.

Last thing, is it better for this installation that I upgrade my iMac to Mountain Lion, or should I stick with Lion, or is it irrelevant?

Thank you very much!

Also, is there an easy way to add an SSD to my setup? I'd like to do it all on the HDD at first and add the SSD later, because I'm not going to sell my iMac until after I get the hackintosh working well.

I would create a partition on the HDD that is the same size or smaller than the SSD you plan to buy (ie 120Gb). Install the OS to the 120Gb partition on the HDD for now, put the pictures/movies/music folders on the bigger partition and symlink as your guide suggests. Once you get the new SSD, use CarbonCopyCloner to clone the 120Gb HDD partition to the SSD and setup the bootloader to load the SSD. you can use the 120Gb HDD partition as an OS backup, refresh it whenever you need to do an OS upgrade or try a new config.
