Ok, i had windows 7 on my new hackintosh, cpu temperatures used to be around 18C on idle, on loads never over 30C. No overclocking or nothing like that, processor is i3 3220. So my question is, is it normal on hackintosh to run hotter than windows? i am just booting mountain lion, deleted windows 7 partition. Thanks for any response

Hi, i have a intel i5 2500 and my normal temp is 40º is normal i think....

hi, thanks for your response. I was researching on internet and yes, it seems to be normal. Even the original apple computers run hotter than their windows counterpart. I have a mac book pro early 2011 with an i5 2.3Ghz and it runs pretty hot, all the time, like that for 3 years, not a problems .

It's been my experience that a cpu tends to run anywhere from 5 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit above whatever the ambient temperature in the room is. Now you're sitting there telling me your CPU was at 18 degrees Celsius, and that's telling me you'd probably be sitting in a room that 15 degrees Celsius, which is too dang cold.

My conclusion is that whatever program you were using in Windows to monitor the hardware temperatures either wasn't reading the temperature sensors properly or wasn't calibrated.

Now it could be possible that your motherboard has some sort of software in Windows that drops the voltage on the process when it's not in use, and that would have an impact on idle temps. But if your system is air-cooled the temperature will never go below the ambient air temperature in the room.
