Work in progress...I found this very nice 1949 HECO corner speaker recently...although it is almost sacrilege to destroy this, I wanted an antique computer. Amazingly the Mini ITX board is exactly the same profile as the original speaker, so very carefully I removed a rear panel to build the hack. so apart from two small holes to hold the power card on its unblemished. I need to instal a small fan but its nearly ready. The two grooved pieces of wood at the bottom hold 2x 2.5inch SSD's. I will mount my Optoma 301 projector on the top, and re use the bluetooth laser keyboard, then its even portable!

Hmm, never had a problem with shielding. I have another two Hacks in plastic boxes- no problems there..I tested it all out on a workbench, never detected any issues with sound or interference, been running them for over 6 months each..same with grounding.

This is awesome!

I've considered doing something similar. I love tweed and I don't know why. Another way to keep it clean inside would be to simply cover the inner wood with a sealer or varnish.

Damn, now I think I'm going to have to go looking for old radios to play with.

very cool design..reminds me of my first selfmade guitar ´tube amp´, made from an old tube radio ;)

you also could cut the backplate from brown hard paper ( Pertinax) or Bakelit like the original vinatge radios..

Nice idea! i like it :)

Steampunk!

Really cool stuff....
