What do you need? Would you like to know which one is better?

Well because this 2 boards are now on tony recommended list, i want to compile the various parts.
As you can see not all works on this boards. Thats important, when you buy, to know what is going to work and what is not going to work.
I did some research based on other user experiences and decided to join that info in this tables so it help to decide (me and others) which on i m going to buy.
A apreciate if some one saw anything wrong or want to add something i forgot, pls do it :)

thanks

Great idea freituk!

If the additional chipsets on the UP5 don't work the UP4 would be the better choice. The saved money could be invested in a Sonnet Gigabit Card (for ethernet) or a TP-Link TL-WDN4800 (for Wifi) or a USB Audio or a SYBA Firewire Card. I think thats a better pick allover. We should search for more informations and user reports but i think i gonna cop that UP4 if your suggestions are right.

I agree. The UP4 looks like a better option, and there's still plenty of room to expand if you need to.

What are the issues with USB 2.0 on the UP5-TH? I ordered a UP5-TH last week, and thanks to some crazy mistake, I received a UP4-TH today. If it's possible to just drop a FireWire card into the UP4-TH that will work with my front panel, I may just take a small refund and keep the UP4-TH and avoid all the hassle of shipping it back and finding another day to assemble my machine (I had set a good portion today aside just for this purpose).

there is no issues with usb 2 on UP5 just after wakeup from sleep the usb2 HDD or flash usb eject and u have to replug in . and this issues for all real mac even up4 and fixed by apple 10.8.1 beta

OK, that's no problem then. My Time Machine backup disk is over eSATA, and I never leave thumb drives plugged in longer than necessary. Definitely a point in favor of waiting for the UP5 then. I still may go with keeping the UP4 if anyone knows of a cheap ($10-20) FireWire card that plays nice with OS X.

You may have figured it out by now, but the UP4 TH has an issue with the USB ports. 2 out of the 6 USB ports are run by the Intel chipset, while the other 4 USB ports are on the VIA chipset. Those 4 USB ports will not be recognized by Mac OS X (no drivers for VIA chipsets). So you're instantly limited to the 2 USB ports located underneath the ethernet plug. However, these two ports are underpowered, so devices such as external hard drive or iPhones will not be recognized. In addition to this, if you have xHCI enabled in the BIOS/UEFI, it will only recognize USB 3.0 devices and will not acknowledge any USB 2.0 devices. If you turn off xHCI, it will only function at USB 2.0 speeds, never at USB 3.0 speeds.

I'm keeping my UP4 TH, since my case has USB 3.0 ports on the front that plugs into the motherboard header, but I also had to buy a PCI USB 2.0 bracket since I don't want tons of wires running to the front of my case, and I don't want to use a bunch of USB hubs. It was cheaper to buy the USB bracket for $8 than pay $75 in S&H and restocking fees.

If you received a UP4 in error, RETURN IT. The CustoMac list should be updated ASAP to acknowledge this issue. The UP5 TH does not have this issue.
