Hi Everyone,

First thanks everyone for making this such a good site. A lot of part time effort goes into this, and guys like me appreciate everyone taking the time to post these technical details!
I've been reading and searching the buyers lists since February, and finally started to order stuff. Christmas in July!!!

I've gone back and fourth so many times. So I've started to order parts, cases, PW supplies, drives and just trying to settle on the final MB and GPU.
I've backed off the X99 builds and since this is my first hackintosh (been building PC since the 486 days, but first time I've tried OS-X on one. I would really like something I think I can get OS-X with has few problems has possible. I'm pretty sure either board will work and is on the buyers guide. However at the last second the new TI GPUs came out. Since they are both new, I don't think anyones had much time with them, so neither one of them is on the buyers guide.

I need a push on my build. I have to get off this fence I've been on for months.

I've settled either on the following:

Gigabyte 980ti

Gigabyte Gaming GT. (Why isn't the G1 on the list, is this because of the SoundBlaster Quad?)

Asus 20th Gold

Asus Deluxe z97

From Nvida page the drivers seem to be very similar between the GTX 980 and the GTX 980ti. It looks like the same card just more memory, but this could be a bad assumption on my part.

I hope I'm not going down the wrong road. I think I would be able to get the ASUS Gold to work, and my buddy just got that card and it is one very nice card. The Ti, I really don't know much about because its so new. I want to say it would be very similar.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks again Stork and to the many other members for your work.

I would go for GTX 980 over 980Ti (there are reports of these variant not working well with OS X)

PS-Is there a reason no ASUS 980 cards are on the buy list? Am I missing something?
I am not a moderator so I will not comment on this.

All I have to say is that MSI Gaming 4G and ASUS Strix series (960/970/980) work as well as EVGA.

Thanks for the reply.

I was reading on here (I think), that the ASUS and Gigabyte don't follow the "reference designs" all the time, and the more you deviate from that the more issues you might encounter.
I know all these cards will run very well. I'm just looking for one that I may have less problems with.

Thanks again...

Neither...went over the edge with a EVGA kingpin

Thanks again,

After some more reading I kind found out the 980ti is really a smaller version of the Titan then a bigger version of the 980. So I'll stick with the regular 980.

The EVGA cards also looked more compatible has a whole too.
The release of the Ti has really pushed down 980 prices, so I'm glad I waited. I settled on the EVGA Kingpin. EVGA is offering right now at even lower prices around 499.00. Thats a nice card for under 500 dollars.

Of course I had to pick one out that hasn't made the list, so I hope there aren't any problems with it. I've waited too long on a few of these sales, and the price can go right back up or goes out of stock, so I didn't have that much time to research it here.

PS-Started the build the other night. Hope to document it and post it here in the near future. And hopefully not ask that many stupid questions has I work this out.

Sorry to revive this thread but I'm in a bind. I want the Kingpin, but only if it works:crazy:. Any advice?

Thanks!

Sorry for the late response...but yes I have the card working great...:headbang:

Sweet! Was there anything special that you had to do or was it just the regular drivers?

Anyways thanks for the help! I couldn't find any other info on the web about the Kingpin's in OSX. So next paycheck, I'll drop on the 980 Ti Kingpin.

Thanks again mate, and happy hacking!

Sorry I should have noted I got the 980 King Pin, not the TI.
I can tell you it is fast has heck. I run a dual boot with one Intel SSD for windows and one for OS-X.
No games have come close to pushing it.
EVGA was running a sale and scored one for 499.00. Haven't seen it that low again. But watch for sales.
I highly recommend the card.

Good Luck
