Unique! X99 Mini-ITX mobo - ASRock X99E-ITX/ac

Dear hackintoshers,

I've been thinking on going 1 or 2 steps forward on the hackintosh direction, from an Intel Nuc hack I was able to complete following advises in this forum (fairly easy following this site's guides)

For that, I plan to prepare a new G4 Cube that I'm going to use as my main desktop while at home (and continue using my MBP i7 2.9 2012 (with 16gb and 2 SSDs on it while away from home).

Since I want the most powerful G4 Cube I may get inside it, I already got the smallest PSU I could get that would give me 450W 80Gold ST45SF-G

Then, while I was planning what Z97 mini itx board to use along with an i7-4790k, ASRocked announced (and is shipping already) a X99 compatible board in the mini-itx form factor, basically allowing to use more than 4 cores in a mini itx, along with more than 16gb of ram, and even a m.2 sata slot with up to 32gb/s bandwidth (4xpcie) (which makes space, in my plans, to the mobo + psu + 6-core processor + cooler + mini gtx 970.

I did not find any comments in this new motherboard yet in this site  , so here I go...

The new X99E-ITX/ac from ASRock...

There are a few reviews online like this, this and this
.... and just got on sale on some online stores. here

So, an X99 with a 6-core on a G4 Cube.... I know.... probably more than 1 or 2 steps forward if I come from just an Intel Nuc hack with Yosemite. o_O

The question then is:
knowing this is a brand new mobo, of a newer, not yet supported chipset X99:
- I'll need to use Windows only for a long time, until I get it to work with Yosemite, right?
Or some of the ASRocks with X99 I see running already on these forums, are a good hope of getting the mini itx x99 to work also?

I'm System Engineer, and I have no trouble on following all the guides around, and troubleshooting these kind of issues. In fact, I'd love to have a 6-core inside my G4 Cube (either a Xeon 1650v3 or i7-5930k)! And I even have some ideas on improving airflow inside it, using some 3-d printed tunnels (Patent Pending).

Well, any kind of critics are welcome.
Thanks!
Lucho

bonus: a new build by Linus with X99E-ITX/ac and an 18-core!

To the moderators:
sorry if this one goes inside the G4 Cube mods topic, but at this point, the doubts I have are more related to the X99 hardware (which may help non G4-Cube builds as well) instead of how to make everything work inside the cube(which will be an issue too of course)

Hi all again,
I'm about to pull the trigger on this mobo (x99e-itx/ac)

I wouldn't mind having to scratch my head a lot in order to make OSX work on it, but, is it even possible?

Or it may happen that there is no way on making it work on this mini-itx mobo with x99, even if there are success builds on ASRock's X99?

Thanks in advance!
Luciano

Compare the board chips and functionality with the Asrock Fatal1ty X99M Killer. If it is close other than the extra RAM slots and PCIe slots, then it will work with OS X. I have gotten this board to work with the i7 5930K, 16GB ram and a GTX980.

Thanks Moderator!

I'll take a look. In fact I saw another built too, that succeed with the Asrock Fataity X99x here too.
Thanks again and I'll post back with the X99M vs X99E comparison.

I thought it was a great option at first time. I haven't give a try to this mobo I'm going to tell u why not?
First is the first x99 itx I'm anxious to get into the x99 itx side there are many 4+ cores options instead of the mainstream that still on the 4C. Undoubtly asrock is not my trustworthy brand I'll shoot a buck on a gigabyte when they release their version. Also it's price will drop when some other X99 itx solutions come out which I don't expect to delay it much more. Plus that cooler  better than the stock but I'll have it set it up with WC so there is no much reason to have that CHUNK over the cpu.

If you can hold ur horses a bit more with ur own systems, I'll bet that is the right choice for now. You will have what u want before this year ends.

I kind of see your point and I agree... but...

being Broadwell-E compatible with LGA 2011v3 (thus X99 right?), it will still be very easy to upgrade the processer (if the leap from Hasswell-E to Broadwell-E is worth doing it).

Skylake-E will have a different socket (possibly different from LGA1151 per what I've read), so if I'd like to have the 6 core (or 8 core version) of the i7, then, I think it's safe to go ahead now, because Broadwell-E will be compatible with X99E-ITX/ac and Skylake-E, that will require a new mobo, will be released, luckily in 2017.

Am I totally wrong?

Thanks for your opinion!

I checked the differences agains X99E-itx/ac vs Fatal1ty X99M and Fatal1ty X99X, and the differences are not too big.. I think only in the LAN chip..

asrock has a nice comparison page here

Thanks Going Bald!
Another doubt, is my analysis in the previous post wrong?
(Hasswell-E vs Broadwell-E vs Skylake-E and its sockets/chipsets?)

@luchazo I believe you would be the first ever to put a 140W TDP 5930K into a G4 cube if you can
pull this one off. I wish you success but I hope you realize what kind of challenge you are in for.

Most of the G4 Cube mods will use a CPU with a 65W TDP S version CPU and seem to find ways to cool
it. You might need to find some way to install one of the smaller AIO liquid coolers in the case if you will
do anything CPU intensive with this build.

You may want to also post in the G4 Cube mods sections to see what those who have buillt them
would have to say about an X99 build in one of those.

Thanks trs96, for your feedback!
In fact I'm very aware of the issue on putting a 140W (and a 200W GPU) inside it. I think hahaha.....
Let's see if possible.
I've done some sketches and have some ideas on the airflow to make it wo

I went ahead and created another thread, specifically about the issues on putting this system inside a G4 Cube.
I'll leave this present thread for the discussion and questions on how to make the X99 mini itx board work (which was my original intention)

If you want, viist the G4 Cube thread where I show my ideas on part/placement inside the small cube

awesome! keep up the great work and keep us posted!!
