Has anyone done one of these yet? Looking to build a new 8 core monster. Dont wanna buy anything before I know what actually works.

Got USD$1050 for the CPU? i7 5960x is the only 8 core - 5930K is about $600 and the 5820K is around $400

At this point no one knows yet what works. Parts ordered haven't had time to arrive yet for first adopters unless they found a seller to drop ship overnight.

I agree it is overpriced but its going to be the main tool for my job so its 'worth' it. I have alot of the other components already so its not going to be a brutal build. Guess I'll have to sit back and wait for a little bit

If it is for work is tax deductable, right?

32G of DDR4 will run about $600 (2x 4x4 kits to populate all slots or 1x 4x8 on a 4 slot mATX board)

I am waiting for info on the Asus RVGene before deciding on Asus, AsRock or MSI for a mATX build.
Need to reduce the desktop footprint a bit - tired of having to get up to plug in USB flash drives on top of case.

So you are planning a similar build?

So you are planning a similar build?

Yes, but not so ambitious - 6 core will be fine for my needs. Getting the 5930K over the 5820K for the extra 12 lanes of PCIe as I plan on using Samsung xp941 in the M.2 slot and possible another on a PCIe card in the PCI x4 slot for scratch drive. Single GTX770 or 780 will be plenty to drive dual monitors for Autocad, Microstation, SolidWorks, Total Plant, PDMS and other apps I use. I don't game, so don't OC at all - base 2133Mhz RAM bus clock speed will be plenty good enough for me. I am not in that big a hurry on any of the projects I do.

This will replace my aging X58A with 12G of RAM and a Sapphire 5770 VaporX

Any advice on possible motherboards?

I was looking at the Gigabyte X99-UD4, only because of compatibility of past gigabyte board with hackintosh builds. But was this mostly because of the audio codecs?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128751

Wouldn't the 5820 be fine for a single GPU (16 PCI-E lanes) and 2 SSD (2x4 PCI-E lanes) system?

Probably, but the price point is not that different between the 5820 and the 5930, so the 5930 is the better deal IMHO. Also leaves room for maybe another xp941 on a PCIe x4 card.

so we need to wait the release of a new x99 macpro or it's possible to hack a x99 with 5820k right now?
i've to build an hackintosh but i'm waiting to buy components,x79 it's too old now and z97 4790k not too strong for my needs!
8 core is a waste of money right now maybe in one year they release sonething better value 4 money
xp941 will be the best choice for mac osx cuz 1200mb/s write.....
damn what can i do?
come on guys let's hack x99

Just put X99 into search and follow some of the threads of folks trying to install OS X on one of
these builds. Haven't seen any success yet. A fully working CustoMac on an X99 system is still
about 6 mos. to a year off. That is, one without have to jump through about 1000 hoops to make
it work. Better to just wait for support before buying/building one. By then DDR4 prices will have
come down and many of the intial problems with the hardware will have been resolved. There are
always growing pains to go through when any new chipset comes out, even on the Windows side.
To quote Tom Petty, "The wait is the hardest part" but in this situation it's the best thing to do.
