Hi there, I've been a long time Mac user, I am trying to learn more about Hackintosh and getting to know it better so I can build one myself! I was wondering if any experts here could be able to tell me if these potential purchases would be compatible?

I am a graphic designer so I do a lot of Adobe Photoshop, and I'd also do some video editing as well on Final Cut. Im also an avid gamer so I was also wondering if I can get a good machine out of my purchaes?

Overall I would say this looks really good, I am not sure as a first time build I would use the z97 series just because they are more difficult to work with. Personally I would go with the z87 version.

The only change I would make is to go with a 250 GB SSD and then install like a 1-2 TB HDD as well, trust me you will want the extra space especially if you are a graphic designer.

Also I think for this setup the 1000 watt PSU is overkill, but I am sure someone else can comment on this.

Agree with mlovergaard.

Z87 would make your life much easier!

1000 watts does seem like over kill. You could get away with something as low as 650 here. 850 if you want to add another GPU in the future. Have a look at some online calculators that estimate your wattage.

Was just having a discussion with another forum member about 760 vs 770 for gaming. My advice would be to research some benchmarks of games you want to play at the resolutions you will be using and decide which GPU gives you the performance you want. I think we concluded that both do the job pretty well!

EDIT - oh and might want to reconsider Corsair RAM. Known issues with Gigabyte boards and Corsair causing freezes in Mavericks. It's been removed from the Buyer's Guide for that reason. The recommendation is Crucial and I have seen success with G Skill from user builds.

Thanks Guys, I just made some changes to my orders, I switched to 2x256GB SSD drive + a 1T HDD Drive. A downgrade from 1000w to 800w seemed right since I may need to upgrade a new graphics card in the future. I also changed my motherboard to a Z87 model since you guys recommended that it would be easier to work with.

Again, Please give me your input on these updated parts. Let me know if you would do anything differently!
