Hi,

I have Clover bootloader up and running but it doesn’t want to boot into Windows 8. Only OS X Mavericks boots from the Clover menu. In the Clover menu I can still see all the Windows UEFI partitions. The only way I can boot Windows 8 is from the bios boot device screen and selecting Windows Boot Manager. If I try and select this in the Clover menu, Windows starts to boot then goes to the Windows Repair (completing the repair does nothing to fix the problem).

I looked on YouTube and the closest thing I found that’s similar to my Win 8 Clover boot issue.

Here’s my drive setup;

I’m lost at this point and would very much appreciate the help diagnosing this problem.

Is your Win8.1 on same drive as OS X or separate? Is it installed Legacy mode or UEFI?

If separate/UEFI, then when you boot Clover, you should see 5 windows drive icons. The one that boots Win8.1 UEFI installation is the one titled "Boot Windows EFI from EFI" IIRC. I can post a pic if you need one.

OS X Mavericks and Windows are on its own SSD.

Windows 8.1 install is UEFI.

When I try booting with "Boot Windows EFI from EFI" it acts like it's booting Windows as I can see the Windows 8 spinner then about 6 seconds later the screen goes black and just hangs.

was the Win8 installed first? When you went to install OS X did you have to change the BIOS SATA port settings to AHCI? If you cahnge the BIOS SATA ports to IDE does the Win8 boot normally?

When I installed Windows 8, I unplugged the OS X SSD drive first. I also did the same when installing OS X Mavericks. So the first install was Windows. My BIOS was set to AHCI when I checked before the installs.

Btw, my motherboard is Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5

If you disconnect the OS X drive will Win8.1 boot?

With only the Windows drive plugged in, it boots into Win 8.1 right away.

OK, so Win8.1 is viable and able to boot on its own.

When I use the Clover USB to boot with only the Win8.1 drive connected, I see this:
DSC_0076.JPG and when I move to the next icons, I see DSC_0077.JPGDSC_0078.JPGDSC_0079.JPGDSC_0080.JPG, for a total of 5 Win8.1 icons. This last pic shows the icon you have to select to boot Win8.1 installed UEFI. The USB shown in the pics is, of course, the Clover USB boot installer flash drive. Note its title/name is "Boot Microsoft EFI boot menu from EFI"

I made a quick video of the issue. Note, I hide the extra Windows volumes in the video. Btw, Clover is on the OS X SSD drive. I also tried with just the Windows SSD drive plugged in and USB Clover but still the same issue (black screen).

OS x boots OK from Clover, Win8 boots just fine on its own, but Win8 will not boot from Clover selection if I am understanding this correctly. From the vid, Clover boots, Win8 starts to boot and the board boots back to BIOS and then to Win8 again - I noticed the quick flash of the Gigabyte splash screen when Win8 boot went black and then restarted.

Double check BIOS to make sure rapid boot, secure boot and trusted platform options are disabled. I can't think of anything else to cause this behavior.

One thing to try if you are OK with installing Win8 again (you might have problems with license key issues if you have installed several times) is to Boot to BIOS and make sure all settings are for OS X installation, then re-install Win8. It does not like BIOS changes once it is installed.
