Hey!

I got my El Capitan Clover installation working great but there are a few kinks I'm trying to work out. The bootloader resolution is low and the wrong aspect ration for my screen. I'm using an ATI card. Everything works fine in OS X. All the support I seem to be able to find on this topic is regarding UEFI which I don't have.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

To be expected, legacy BIOS does not support resolutions above 1600xsomething.

Really?! I could have swore previous bootloaders I've tried would be higher if not native resolution. And I don't have UEFI. Maybe I just had it at a higher res but not native.

Thanks!

You're correct. Booting legacy BIOS with Chameleon for Yosemite allows 1920x1200px boot graphic display on my ancient setup, so it's not a BIOS issue as much as some limitation in Clover at present. Which is my way of saying I have the same problem - I'm stuck with ratty-looking oversized boot graphics each time I boot into El Capitan.

Sorry I don't have a solution although I've spent many hours searching and futzing with the Configurator app.

Maybe some day. :(

Great! Thanks for the confirmation and information.

No worries.

Search "PatchVBiosBytes" on Google - there may be some hope there but I haven't had time to look into it myself. Anything you can dig up would be welcome as I'm like a dog with a bone when it comes to resolving tech issues. I hate admitting defeat! :-D

Cheers,

UPDATE:

I got it working at 1920x1200 after spending another couple of hours chasing my tail. I'm not certain which changes actually led to the native res but the "Info" button in the bootloader confirms it, so after all the shagging about I can add it to my list of well-bitten bones. :)

If you know how to embed PLIST code on this forum so that it retains its formatting, let me know the secret and I'll upload mine to save you the hassle of comparing by eye. Or failing that, I'll do a screenie of my PLIST and upload that instead.

Based on the strips top and bottom (see attached pic), the background of the theme I chose is set to 1920x1080 so something I'll fix when I get a minute. I suspect you'll have to do the same to whichever theme you choose.

Anyway, thank heavens that's over. [Phew]

Cheers,
VFR_P

Can you try attaching the PLIST to a post?

I believe that's possible. Best I zip it I guess, but no guarantees the formatting will stick once you open it at your end.

Fingers crossed though.

Note that in the PLIST, some stuff like my HDA solution and gfx card type will have irrelevant values for you. Best of luck with getting a good result. :)

Although this is an old thread, I wanted to contribute as this issue also effected me. As "ellissitzky" commented, I too initially only uncovered solutions that dealt with fixing the incorrect aspect ratio resolution in a UEFI Clover bootloader screen and not Legacy.

While not knowing exactly what changes fixed the issue, the provided config.plist by VFR_Pilot was the key. Firstly, the suggestion someone had made to add the screen resolution via an editor (PlistEdit Pro, Xcode etc.) instead of Clover Configurator was necessary for me. Despite the fact that I had entered the resolution previously in Clover Configurator, when comparing my config.plist with the one above uploaded by VFR_Pliot I noticed that my resolution information was missing.

The other important addition of note that made a difference was selecting/clicking the "Patch VBios" in the "Graphics" section of Clover Configurator. Prior to comparing the two config.plist, I instead had the "Load VBios" tab checked. Once applied to my config.plist, my Legacy Clover boot screen was fixed and displayed in the correct aspect ratio/resolution.

Hope this helps !
