Check the official page for your particular motherboard to download the UEFI update. Compressed .exe files can be unpacked in OS X using Stuffit, The Unarchiver, UnRarX or the like. See http://www.tonymacx86.com/bios-uefi/131047-how-update-your-gigabyte-motherboards-bios.html.

Gigabyte 9-Series Motherboard UEFI Updates 2015/04

Important to note: The GA site says that you can't go back to an earlier version of the bios for your motherboard once you do this update. So if your system is working perfectly well now and you won't be upgrading to a Broadwell cpu then you could skip the update altogether.

Despite not being able to downgrade if you update to the new BIOS, I haven't had a freeze on my z97x-UD5H since doing the update, so my experience so far has been positive.

I have the same MB with a 4790K. I was wondering if I should bother as my system is perfectly stable minus a deep hibernate issue. Thanks.

The main reason I updated was to see if it would resolve random system freezing. In your case, I think hibernate is better suited for a laptop in order to conserve battery power, so I don't see much of a benefit on a desktop.

Thanks, I guess I need to figure out how to control which sleep state my machine uses. Perhaps a darkwake setting in Clover. Right now my config.plist doesn't set a darkwake state.

So, I am guessing the Z87 build won't receive an update to accept Broadwell chips?

From what I've read it will vary from mobo maker to mobo maker. It's likely that Gigabyte will
but probably not for every one of the Haswell 8 series boards. Check their site for the updates.

GA-Z97N-WiFi - F6
with Yosemite 10.10.3 and Intel graphics no problems found yet. Was running one evening without crash.

I've not tested USB yet, in the past (with F5) there were freezes if i used USB2.0 and USB3.0 devices at the same time both on USB3.0 Interfaces.

Processor: i7-4790K

Edit:
2'nd evening without freeze despite heavy USB usage (HD clone to external USB drive). This looks promissing...

2_nd edit:
After three days without freezes, they are back. Without any change on OS or BIOS. So no improvement from BIOS update with respect to random freeze....
