I'm sure there's a million threads on here (and the internet in general) about hatred for the Windows OS. I recently decided to run Windows 7 on a machine that was running Ubuntu for a change of pace and more compatibility. As expected, this was a painful and slow process.
After installing the OS, I had to install drivers just to get the internet to work. WTF? I know you can't have every driver for every network device, but come on, there has to be a "base" driver to get things moving. Then I had to install drivers for the APU (AMD A6400k) so I could run XBMC (this is mostly a streaming HTPC). Drivers so it could use GUI?
I had a few issues getting Ubuntu to run on this machine, but that was to be expected from an open source OS. I would think that the "leader" of OSs would do a much better job. Again, assuming, that it could detect the hardware and then seek out the proper drivers and install during the MANY updates I had to install.
Speaking of, why does it say "there are no updates to install", and then I click "search for updates" are there updates to be installed? Stupid. I'm used to my Mac where it just works. Even a Hackintosh is easy. Maybe it's just the switch in OSs, even though I've been using Windows for years in an office setting. I'll get used to the pain of Windows, but I'll always have my Mac
Rant over.
