    How to Take Screenshots in OS X

    1. To take a full screen screenshot, press Cmd+Shift+3. A .png file will appear on the Desktop.

    2. To take a screenshot of part of the screen, press Cmd+Shift+4 then drag a rectangle

    3. To take a screenshot of a single window, press Cmd+Shift+4, then spacebar, then click on the window

    4. To take a screenshot of a single window without any transparent space (like the drop shadow), follow #3 but hold Opt (Alt) when clicking.

    You may also use the built-in app /Applications/Utilities/Grab for more control over format.
