I posted on 30April (http://www.tonymacx86.com/audio/974...hen-beach-ball-death-sys-pref.html#post595827)
about problems following a working audio installation (Realtek ALC889) on Mtn Lion 10.8.3
I gave up on using onboard audio; retrieved from my spare parts a Creative
Audigy 2 sound card (PCI); installed it and used the kxproject driver
- kX Driver for OS X 1.11b0.dmg (dated 28Dec2009) - (but v1.3b0 is dated 24Jul2009)
I had static-free audio immediately (from the card ports) - haven't test the mic' in port

SBLive, EMU APS, Audigy, Audigy2, Audigy4, SB 512, E-mu E-DSP cards
NB: the notes indicate no support for Creative XFi, nor will there be, unless
some else jumps into the development.
Manage the volume via Sys Pref, or another application, or web controls.
First music played: Interpol's "Rest My Chemistry" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hh72kgn5Bk4),
which I think was appropriate for the aggro' this audio thing caused me.
Played bit of an mp4 movie in Quick Time. Creative/Sound Blaster quality that I'm used to on Windows.
