Because my rig had no sound after waking from sleep I decided to switch from onboard Realtek ALC887 to an external USB device, specifically the ENMAB-8CM 7.1 channel Audio Box marketed under the brand name ENCORE. It uses one of the CMedia codecs, but I don't know which one. Under Windows drivers it can work in a variety of modes, including "studio quality" 24-bit 44,100 kHz sampling.
After installing I tested it, and it works perfectly -- waking and sleeping up is flawless now. However, I notice that OS X doesn't have an obvious way to change sampling and bit depth. Can some one guide me on this matter?
